The eldest son of Matthew Kellaway and Anne Harris, Samuel was born in 1795 in Lamerton, Devon.
He married Jane Hamley on 8 May 1820 at St Eustachius Church in Tavistock. Together they had nine children. By 1851, the family were living in Clifton, Bristol, where Samuel worked as a carpenter.
On 8 July 1861, when he was 66 years old, Samuel Kellaway drowned in the River Froom - according to witnesses, he had been drinking earlier in the evening and it is thought that he fell into the river at some point during the evening of 8 July. An inquest was held and on Saturday 13 July 1861, a piece was published in the Bristol Mercury regarding the unfortunate accident.
