William Frost Spray was born c.1833 in Torquay, Devon. He was christened on 10 May 1833. His father, William Spray died when William was very young. His mother, Thirza, remarried and on the 1841 census, William is living with his mother and her new husband, Thomas Damerall.
Between 1851 and 1856 he moved from Devon to Bristol. He worked as a tailor.
On 25 November 1856, he married Emma Louisa Watts. They had 13 children.
He died on 25 October 1897 in Union Street, Bristol. The cause of death was given as apoplexy. An inquest was held.
